Montessori Education

A Different Approach to Learning

Montessori education is more than a teaching method—it is a philosophy that respects each child as a unique individual with their own pace, interests, strengths, and developmental journey.

Rather than asking children to adapt to a rigid educational system, Montessori education adapts to the needs of the child. The goal is not simply to teach information, but to develop capable, independent, confident individuals who possess a genuine love of learning.

At Tezukayama Global Academy, Montessori education serves as the foundation upon which our broader curriculum is built.

Learning Through Experience

Children learn best when they actively engage with the world around them.

For this reason, Montessori education emphasizes hands-on learning. Rather than memorizing information, students work with carefully designed materials that allow them to discover concepts for themselves.

Whether exploring mathematics, language, science, practical life skills, or cultural studies, children learn by doing, observing, experimenting, and solving problems.

This active learning process creates deeper understanding, stronger concentration, and greater retention than passive instruction alone.

Freedom Within Structure

One of the most misunderstood aspects of Montessori education is the concept of freedom.

Montessori classrooms provide children with the freedom to make choices, but those choices exist within a carefully prepared environment designed to support healthy development.

Students learn how to manage their time, select appropriate activities, complete their work responsibly, and respect both their environment and the people around them.

Over time, this balance between freedom and responsibility helps children develop self-discipline, independence, and confidence in their own abilities.

The Toddler

The Montessori journey at Tezukayama Global Academy begins in our Toddler program.

Children may join once they can walk independently on their own. Final acceptance is confirmed after the parent interview.

During this stage of development, children are experiencing an extraordinary period of growth. They are learning how to move, communicate, interact with others, and understand the world around them.

The Toddler environment is carefully designed to support these developmental needs.

Activities strengthen independence, language, concentration, coordination, self-care, and social awareness—through everyday tasks like food preparation, cleaning, dressing, and respectful interaction.

These experiences help children develop confidence in themselves and lay the foundation for future academic and social success.

The Children's House

As children gain independence, confidence, and experience, they gradually transition into our Children's House (CH).

The Children's House environment expands upon the foundations established during the Toddler years and introduces increasingly sophisticated learning opportunities.

Students continue developing independence while exploring mathematics, language, cultural studies, science, geography, practical life, and creative expression through Montessori materials and activities.

Mixed ages encourage collaboration and peer learning—younger children observe; older children mentor and deepen their own understanding.

Progression Based on Readiness, Not Age

One of the defining characteristics of Montessori education is the recognition that children develop at different rates.

For this reason, progression from Toddler to Children's House is not determined by age alone.

Instead, our educators carefully observe each child's development, independence, interests, social skills, concentration, communication abilities, and readiness for new challenges.

Some children may be ready earlier, while others may benefit from additional time within the Toddler environment. Both paths are perfectly natural.

This individualized approach ensures that children enter Children's House when they are truly prepared to thrive rather than when a calendar says they should.

Montessori Education at TGA

While Montessori education provides the foundation of our program, it is enhanced by the unique opportunities available at Tezukayama Global Academy.

Students learn in an English-speaking Montessori environment enriched by sports, enrichment classes, excursions, and cultural experiences—developing independence and a broad range of real-world skills.

Preparing Children for Life

Ultimately, Montessori education is not about creating perfect students.

It is about helping children become confident learners, independent thinkers, responsible community members, and capable individuals who are prepared to navigate an ever-changing future.

At Tezukayama Global Academy, we believe that when children are respected, challenged, and given opportunities to learn through meaningful experiences, they develop not only knowledge, but also the character and confidence needed for lifelong success.
